Capsis Convention Centres & Resort Hotels was the first hotel chain in Greece, founded in 1968 by Dia Capsis’ parents, Marika and Thanos Capsis. With business activities including 17 hotels across Greece, their prospective plans and ideas, and their contribution to the development of tourism in certain key areas of the country, Marika and Thanos Capsis were pioneers in the Greek hospitality and tourism industry.
Currently owned and managed by Dia Capsis, Capsis Convention Centres & Resort Hotels is a leading company in the Greek hotel industry. The company operates 2 of the largest and most prestigious 5-star deluxe resort hotels and convention centres in Greece and the Mediterranean, which are open year round:
The Capsis Beach Hotel & Sofitel Capsis Palace Hotel & Convention Center in Aghia Pelaghia, Heraklion, Crete. The only resort and convention centre in the Mediterranean with 110 meeting rooms. The official hotel of the 2004 Olympic Games in Heraklion, Crete.
The Sofitel Capsis Hotel Rhodes & Convention Center “Marika Capsis 2000” in Ixia, Rhodes. The largest resort and convention centre in Greece.
These resort hotels are well-known all over the world for their unique facilities, their immense conference capacities, and their specialisation in the organisation of national, pan-European and international medical, pharmaceutical, automotive and Information Technology conferences and incentives.
In 1995, the company concluded a marketing franchise agreement with the Accor Group (Sofitel) for support in the promotion and sales of the hotel in Crete. The Accor-Capsis cooperation was extended to the hotel in Rhodes, which became a Sofitel hotel the following year.
In 1996, the company became an innovator in Greek winter tourism by keeping the resort hotel in Crete open year round. This effort continued with the hotel in Rhodes, which has been operating year round since 1997.
In 2001, the company built the largest resort and convention centre in Greece and one of the largest in Europe, the “Marika Capsis 2000”, which lies adjacent to the existing Sofitel Capsis Hotel Rhodes.
